For sales gas, the required specification for hydrogen sulfide is 4-5 ppm, while for oil, it is usually higher (i.e., 100 ppm in some cases).
Depending on the size of the production installation, two different strategies to scavenge H2S can be adopted:
• Regenerative systems for large installations
• Non-regenerative systems for small installations
Arkema offers the chemicals used in both types of installations: acid gas absorbers for regenerative units and liquid scavengers for non-regenerative systems (Norust® SC 5x range)

Oxygen scavengers are used in oil production to reduce corrosion resulting from dissolved oxygen. Oxygen scavengers are usually sulfite or bisulfite formulations which will form sulfate (SO4-2) after a reaction with oxygen.
Removal of air by defoaming and mechanical deaeration is an essential step before applying a scavenger to lower the dissolved oxygen content.
