Strata® strain tolerant reflective / reflection cracking relief pavement interlayer makes overlaying concrete pavements possible. It is an impermeable and flexible interlayer that prevents moisture from infiltrating the pavement, and significantly delays reflective / reflection cracking in the overlay. Strata is applied using conventional paving equipment followed by a typical HMA mix.

Strata® Reflective / Reflection Crack Relief Interlayer

One of the many problems facing today’s highway engineers is reflective cracking or reflection cracking of hot mix asphalt (HMA) over concrete and composite pavements. HMA applied over concrete pavements is a challenge since the joints of the concrete pavement cause cracking that quickly reflects upward through the new HMA overlay to the surface. The result is loss of pavement structural strength, and in most cases, a decrease in pavement smoothness and ride comfort. This leads to costly repairs, lengthy user delays and inconvenience to motorists.

With Strata® strain tolerant reflective / reflection cracking relief pavement interlayer, overlaying concrete pavements successfully is now possible. Strata® is impermeable and flexible to prevent moisture from infiltrating the pavement, and significantly delays reflective / reflection cracking in the overlay. It is a specialized high polymer, fine and densely graded HMA mix typically applied through conventional paving equipment, followed by a typical HMA mix. It significantly delays reflective / reflection cracking keeping the entire pavement structure in good condition and the traveling public happy. Strata® also prevents water from entering the concrete pavement below the Strata® lift and preserves the structural integrity of the pavement.
