Quell® Defoamers / Anti-Foaming Agents for the Mining and Crop Nutrition Industries

Product overview
Quell® defoamers / anti-foaming agents and dosing systems are custom-developed for the mining industry to beneficiate oxide ores such as phosphate and industrial minerals. They are designed to meet the requirements of specific mineral deposits, mineral pumping and handling equipment, and froth flotation process conditions. Quell® defoamers are also used in wet-process phosphoric acid production to maintain degassing performance of entrained gases and break surface foam, due to their ability to remain functional for longer periods of time within phosphoric acid reactors. In addition, the use of Quell® defoamers in downstream ammonium phosphate granulation and fertilizer production processes facilitates higher capacity utilization and optimal finished fertilizer output.

Quell® Defoamers

Quell® defoamers / anti-foaming agents are chemical additives that prevent, reduce and break or remove foam. Quell® mining defoamers prevent the formation of foam, and also break or manage foam that has already formed in slurry handling equipment and mineral handling systems, especially when the foam is causing processing problems. At the surface level of thickeners, pump boxes and other mining process equipment, Quell® mining defoamers effectively remove surface foam, reducing mineral processing losses and helping equipment run more efficiently. By slowing or eliminating the formation of foam in mineral process liquids, Quell® defoamers effectively improve the efficiency of mineral processing operations.

Wet-process phosphoric acid production from phosphate rock generates significant amounts of foam and undesirable gases which limit plant production efficiency. Quell® defoamers are also used in wet-process phosphoric acid production to maintain degassing performance of entrained gases and break surface foam, due to their ability to remain functional for longer periods of time within phosphoric acid reactors.

Foam can also be a problem in fertilizer production during downstream ammonium phosphate granulation processes. The addition of Quell® defoamers can facilitate higher capacity utilization and optimal finished fertilizer output in ammonium phosphate granulation and fertilizer production processes.

Quell® defoamers / anti-foaming agents and dosing systems are developed for specific phosphate and industrial minerals, plant equipment and operating conditions. Lab screening of formulas followed by plant testing and ongoing process consultation enables selection of the best formula for your operations.
